Mike Richmond
Winner of the coveted ‘Event Organiser of the Year’ title in 2006 and 2007, Mike has over 15 years experience within the events industry, having started his career as Events Manager at Bristol City Council.
Now Mike is Managing Director of Richmond Event Management and The Event Safety Shop and has been responsible for the creation and production of a host of large scale public events including the International Festival of the Sea held in Bristol, Edinburgh and Portsmouth.
Major projects include: Jersey Live Music Festival 2004-2007; Bristol Harbour Festival 2001-2007; Naming Ceremony of HMS Clyde for VT Shipbuilding (winner of Best Live Event Activity Award 2007); Brunel 200 – Clifton Suspension Bridge fireworks 2006; Grolsch Summer Set: Massive Attack, Groove Armada and Basement Jaxx in Bristol Amphitheatre; Glasgow River Festival and the Crick Boat Show in partnership with British Waterways, amongst many others.
Rather than confining his workload to specific areas, Mike’s portfolio of skills includes event concept and planning, co-ordination of site management, logistics and production, creative programming as well as the commercial activities of marketing and sponsorship. He also brings a practical, experience based approach to event health and safety management and has been the Safety Co-ordinator for Glastonbury Festival since 2002.
As one of the founder organisers of ‘Bristol Sound’ 1996-1999, a music festival organised to highlight the wealth of local musical talent including a seminar programme covering all aspects of the music industry, Mike has long recognised that such a close knit industry relies on the building and maintenance of long lasting relationships.
Mike is currently project managing the Tall Ships Race in Liverpool, one of the ‘Capital of Culture’ events alongside a busy 2008 events schedule.
